If you have any existing products in QuickBooks Online, this setting will help you to choose how to match those products with that of Shopify to avoid duplication. We can match it via Product Name or Product SKU.


If you choose Product Name, we will match the existing Product Names in QuickBooks Online with the Product Name in Shopify. If no match is found, we will create a new product. If you use Product Variants in Shopify, we require the naming convention to be strictly in the format “Product Name -- Variant Name 1 / Variant Name 2”. Any deviations from this naming scheme will increase the chance of duplicate products being imported. 

E.g., If Shopify has a Product “iPhone” with size variants “8GB” and “16GB” and Color Variants “Black” and “White”, a total of 4 products should be recorded on QuickBooks Online as: “iPhone -- 8GB / Black”, “iPhone -- 8GB / White”, “iPhone -- 16GB / Black”, “iPhone -- 16GB / White”. If so, no products will be created by  Pipemonk. However, any deviations from the naming scheme will result in products being created with the correct naming scheme, resulting in duplicates.

Note: For further clarification, or to verify the naming scheme on your existing products in QuickBooks Online, please contact Pipemonk Support.

If you choose SKU, we will match the Product Name field of Products in QuickBooks Online with the SKU field of products (or variants) in Shopify. If no match is found, we will create a new product. 

Note: Please note that the matching is between the SKU field in Shopify and the Product Name field in QuickBooks Online, and NOT the SKU field in QuickBooks Online. This is due to current limitations imposed upon developers by QuickBooks Online.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have multiple products or variants with the same product name and/or SKU, STOP NOW and contact Pipemonk Support before proceeding. If you choose to continue, you may experience sync errors or see duplicate products on QuickBooks Online.
